Memorial Day is upon us and once again, we take time out of our hectic and crazy lives to honor those who have paid the ultimate price so we can enjoy our many freedoms. Thank you to all who have served and are serving and to those families and friends of the fallen – although we should remember them always and not just on a holiday.
I was trying to find a video on YouTube that conveyed just how much this holiday means to me and not only did I find one, but one that also talks about the history of the holiday (click here). It’s just over 8 minutes long but worth it.
Several of my fellow bloggers have been posting all week about various elements of Memorial Day so I would encourage you to check out the blog roll on the home page. I will be re-blogging one such post here shortly.
One of the reasons I started this blog and dedicate it to military history is because I think it is extremely important for everyone, but especially for younger generations, to know not just about the sacrifices but all the events that have led us to this point today. So if you have family members that are still with us and they are so inclined, take some time to hear their story. You won’t regret it. And if you can, thank any service member you may encounter, today and everyday all year-long. Just that simple phrase tells them how much we appreciate them and their willingness to sacrifice their lives so we can have ours.
One of the ways we can pay tribute is to stop and observe a moment of silence/reflection at 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day.
I hope you and your family have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day!
